With a good shaper and proper, correctly adjusted shaper setups, stile & rail door parts that fit and look
right, are made quickly and easily.
The tenon setup, including the tenon jig is a crucial part of making your doors.
Since the tenon is cut on narrow stock across the grain - the cut must be clean and the stock held square and level all the way through the cutter.
Practically, you must have a good shaper with a true cutting spindle, good cope & stick cutters sharp and matched,
and you must have a good jig that will hold up under the load of continuous work. Then the tenon joints are
tight and in
accurate alignment every time.
The jig needs a way to quickly secure the stock and clamp it with out wasting time. It is necessary to have the guide bar on the jig riding in your shaper's miter slot,
adjusted for square and
having no play in the groove.
Weaver's coping cut (or, tenon) jigs are an essential part of your door production.

MANUAL COPING HOLD DOWN TENON JIG
This jig has been a workhorse for 30 years at the Weavers. The jig is designed to cut tenons ("cross grain, rail end, cope cut") for production
door manufacturers.
This sliding hold down or "sled" can accept stock of different widths while you maintain pressure on the stock. The
Coping Jig travels in your shaper table's miter slot to make any coping cut faster and safer. The quick action pressure bar is hand operated and there
is a shield to protect your hand from the cutter. It will handle material up to 6" wide (HD225W) and 10"
wide (HD226W) and 2-1/4" thick.
To prevent chipping
of the wood the sled has a built in wooden block behind the workpiece that keeps the back end of the cut from blowing out as you come out of the cutter.
("blowout"), there is a backup wood block (Bolted On). And, to
protect your wood from marring there is a rubber pad on the steel
pressure plate.
Note: Success in the tenon cut is the jig, material, and the "blowout block" (or "back up
block") be square with the tenon fence or tenon guide. There are also allen screws ("set screws") in the
guide bar for fine adjustment to ensure fit and square with your shaper's miter slot (or groove). Also, there are squaring bolts
for the blowout block.
